iPhone 12 battery draining fast

Thanks Lohvarn. I tried all that today with my iPhone XS: Turning off Bluetooth, then Find My Network, then Find My iPhone. No change. Look at this graph. The steep part today is during all these attempts. The kink towards the flat part at the end is when I switched to guest Wifi.

Switching to guest wifi is the only thing that consistently and 100% reliably fixes this. Each and every time, no exception.

II charged my phone to 80% and used it for few mins and slept , What i saw just shocked me . My Iphone was dead 0% Battery. I checked the battery Usage in settings and here it is , Even in 0 Screen time it drained from almost 60% to 0 without me doing any activity

The exact wording is “Show this iPhone/iPad when on Wi-Fi,” and it appears when you plug your iPhone into your Mac, then select your iPhone/iPad from the sidebar.

The problem is definitely difficult to diagnose on iPad due to the larger battery, so I tend to let it sit for a day to observe trends. But next time you leave for an extended period, take it with you and see if the slope of its battery graph changes at all. It becomes more obvious then.

My 12 pro too does get hot while using. I’m not really sure about the drain on maps and facetime as I haven’t used that much. I’m posting two graphs below, one on wifi and the other on 4g. You can clearly see the difference between graphs and there has to be some issue with 4g as it’s causing significant drain. Another major issue i see is that I bought the phone in December and my battery health is already 93%.

My iphone 12 battery is also already on 94% battery life and i dont get more than 4 hours screen on time most if the time just 3 hours until it goes to battery saving mode.

Ok, I'm at a point where I can turn the battery drain on my iPhone on or off at will, without touching the phone.

First I did what Lohvarn suggested, plugged the phone into all Macs via USB and disabled the "Show this iPhone when on Wi-Fi" setting. Did that on one Big Sur and one Catalina Mac, on the Mac server it didn't show up in the Finder. Ok, whatever.

Now, on that server I have an application running the nightly iOS backups for the entire household, called iMazing. There is a helper program called iMazing Mini which runs 24/7 and manages all the background activity. I suspected this application earlier already when I noticed constant CPU usage of iMazing Mini even during the day when no backups are scheduled, and found that I could stop the battery drain by quitting iMazing Mini. But I wasn't able to reproduce that at will.

After disabling the Wifi setting in Finder, I can again. It seems to me that iMazing causes similar protocols to be invoked talking to the phone all the time, as the Finder or some macOS system process does when that setting is enabled. Look at this:

I started the experiment at point A with 68% after some active use, with iMazing Mini still running from the night before. No active use since then except to check the battery percentage. At point B, I quit iMazing Mini. Started iMazing Mini at 15:00, but only clicked on it to show device status at 16:00, which is point C, where drain started happening again, and phone became warm again. Quit iMazing again at point D after it used up almost 3 minutes CPU time on the 2012 Mac.

I've been in contact with the iMazing 2nd level product support about this before, but didn't have more details to report. Will get back to that now. Maybe they have an idea how to figure out what's going on here.

By the way, no bluetooth setting of any kind has an influence worth mentioning on my phone. CoVID notifications, Find My, anything, none has a noticable effect remotely comparable to this.

Just got the iPhone 12 Pro and what a disappointment. I’m thinking to return it and getting back an XR.

Last night phone at 100% put the phone on airplane mode woke up with 15% gone.

I’m still using 3G, wifi most of the day, while biking playing music, background app is off, Bluetooth off, la power mode all day and the battery drained so fast that at 2pm I had to plug the phone (at $1500 it’s hard to swallow). When the Xr was unplugged on the morning (8am) with enough battery for a strong use until 11:30pm.

Apple’s website state “Up to 17 hours video playback” which is clearly a lie.

Can someone explain how little difference between Xr and 12 Pro has such impact on the battery life and why 12 Pro doesn’t have a same battery than 11 Pro:

12 Pro battery capacity: 2815 mAh.

11 Pro a 3046mAh

XR has a 2,942 mAh

So I was in the same boat as all of you guys but for me (I hope) it is solved now. It started when I updated from 14.6 to 14.7 after that it never went back to normal.

Tried multiply beta's, All software tricks "to save battery", Factory reset and restore from itunes backup, factory reset and restore from iCloud, DFU restore and no restore from backup. Send it to Apple, could not find anything. Nothing worked. Only Airplane mode.

I knew it was from the cellular modem so the last thing I wanted to try is to change provider.

For reference, I live in the Netherlands and use a regular SIM from Youfone, which uses the network of KPN.

I switched to Simyo (eSIM) which also uses the network of KPN.

Which resulted in the following:

At the blue line I inserted my regular Youfone SIM card and you see how it starts draining right away, at the red line, I removed the regular Youfone SIM and activated my Simyo eSIM.

I know it's not a solution for everybody, but I hope somebody is helped by this. If it changes for the worse again i'll update here.

Try to turn off general/content update, i did it this night and lost 4% of battery. I made some other settings, but I think this was the main fault of wasting the charge at night. Dont worry🙂 It’s not last testing I think so I’ll update massage in a week

I'm not sure upgrading to the iPhone 13 is the solution. I have an iPhone 11 Pro and I'm losing around 60% every night, so that's definitely a software issue...

Worse, it seems like "Where's my iPhone" and Siri are responsible for that:

I started searching to see if I had a defective unit and found this thread. I typically keep my phone charged over night but wanted to see what would happen at idle due to the crazy battery drain. I lost 50% overnight connected to wifi. Also charging the 12pro takes much longer vs the 11pro, both in my truck and home.

I’m not very fond of charging lithium batteries 50 centimetres from my sleepy head. But as said, it’s beside the point of the very bad battery performance. Substitute day for night and my point is still valid.

Suppose that means we are all waiting on the eventual recall email to get battery / hardware swapped. I remember having to take my 8plus back for poor battery & some of the serial numbers were recalled.

Why?

It will only keep it charged at a 100% which in turn is bad for your battery.

I know iOS has the optimize battery charging feature. But that is only useful when you have a regular routine and not when you have irregular work shifts (night/day).

Far a device that cost over € 1000 I expect that the battery doesn’t drain that much when idle. Or that it will at least point out to you where the drainage is coming from.

If it can’t than it’s a design error or a bug that should be fixed by the manufacturer!

I hard restart my phone in the morning. Than i charge it to 100%.

(Quick press volume up & release, quivk volume down & release, quick power button, hold it down until apple logo (around 10 sec)).

unplugged it at 11o clock (am) 100%.

now iam at 94%.
