Siri is 'unable' to read missed calls or call last missed call all of a sudden

So glad to see this post! When it first started happening on my mom’s phone (she is legally blind) I tried all the suggestions to no avail. I went to the Verizon store they tried everything without any luck.

This is extremely stressful for a blind person as this is a tool my mom relies heavily on. It also used to read emails, not the whole thing but the sender and subject, and it no longer does that either.

Tools that assist those with disabilities should not be changed/removed without warning.

My mother who is legally blind uses Siri exclusively on her phone. I just gave her my new iPhone 12 because we thought it might be a phone thing. Turns out a complete backup and restore did not fix it and I got a new 13 and it happens there as well. Clearly this is a systemic issue with Siri.

As everyone else have already mentioned, my cousin who is legally blind is also experiencing this issue. He uses the read missed call and open voicemail when doctor's call and leave messages. It allows him the opportunity to hear who called and he can call back. It has been a wonderful feature for him and I'm hoping that a fix will happen so that he can be able to use the feature again. Thank You

They really need to get this fixed and should be a priority given it’s high use of the legally blind. My mother uses Siri explicitly on her iPhone as she cannot see anything else to use it. Without this she essentially has a phone that can only call people. For almost $1k it needs to do more than that. I also think users that can prove legally blind status should get some sort of relief on these very expensive phones

There are many products specifically designed for the visually impaired that may be a better or more economical choice.

Though Apple of course wants to make their products easy to use for all of any ability, they never explicitly advertised the iPhone as having that capability.

That having been said, remember those of us here are just fellow Apple users, and the feedback link I provided above is how you express your desire for features to Apple corporate.

I too am blind. I rely on Siri to tell me my missed calls and if I have any voice mail. I haven't been able to return urgent calls until a sighted person can help me retrieve my missed calls and voicemail. I can't understand why that feature was taken away.

I too am unable to fathom why this critical function that enables the blind and low vision a level of independence. I trust Apple has recognized their error and is working to right the ship by restoring the ability for the blind and others to retrieve with Siri’s Assistance their recent calls and messages QUICKLY

Okay so my mom is visually impaired and this is what i found to help. You have to go to your notifications and turn on siri reading phone notifications. Then tell her "read phone notifications" and it will tell you your last missed call. its different and more work then before but it works

Not understanding how Apple cannot have this resolved by now. Taking away a critical functionality for the disabled, the inability for sight impaired to now check for missed calls and messages via Siri and no response or action does not speak well for this Support Community or Apple itself. We purchased a new iPhone 13 for my aging, sight impaired mother at the recommendation of the School for the Blind. Apple being a leader in the Accessibility feature field. Can no-one offer a timeline for a fix out there? HELLO APPLE???!!!???

I have been waiting since October. Is this still going to happen. This is a necessity for blind people. Don't Blind Lives Matter? This feature worked just fine before the update. My husband had a hard time convincing me to go to a Smart Phone anyway.

What was so import to upgrade that took away the feature that was so need. Just put it back the way it was before October.

IOS 15.2 seemed to have unfixed this issue, my grandad can no longer get Siri to announce who called him without having voice over on. It just brings up a list of the missed called. If anyone is having the same issue or know of a fix it would be greatly appreciated!!

Again, no one here can answer questions as to why it went away.

Apple does read them.

My mom is also blind and relies on this feature a lot. It stopped working for her a few days ago as well. I have also tried on my iPhone and it doesn’t work anymore.

+1. My mom is blind, and this is a non-starter for her. It makes her phone useless.

This may have been done for security reasons or other reasons we are not currently aware of.

Just be sure to send Apple feedback so they know this functionality is important to you.
