iPhone X Could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable error message

I'm having the same issue. At one point the blank "iPhone" screen in iTunes shows an AT&T screen to enter my zip code and social security number, but after clicking "continue" nothing ever happened. Do we just have to keep trying?

I've been trying for 3+ hours. Apple support had me restore the software, reboot my old and X multiple times, connect and disconnect from iTunes multiple times, elevated to senior advisor who said what everyone here is saying - the servers are swamped and to keep trying. Frustrating!

I was with tech support on this. They said they’re bottlenecked with activating Xs and that it should be back to normal by 1230-1p Pacific.

I'm not understanding why iTunes isn't recognizing the device. So isn't it a problem on Apple's end? I'm having the same issue, but with Verizon.

Although I do occasionally get it to say "Activating with (my phone number)"... but then it goes right back to the "Could Not Activate iPhone" screen.

I gave up and called Apple Support. It seems we are all trying to activate our new phones at the same time and are more than the server can handle. Patience is the cure. Try again in a hour or so.

Yes... patience is what we need. 🙂

What seems strange is that this can’t be that widespread or this thread would be much larger. I’ve been trying for over an hour.

I thought this thread would be huge. I don't know of another message board to check for updates. I'm trying to call Apple Support again now.

Update - finally got in and it's activated, and up and running - finally! Good luck, everyone! Keep trying!
