2.0 out of 5 stars Love parts of this and dislike others

The parts I like are the translucent powder & bronzer duo, cheek tint, two powder eyeshadow shades. I don't like the moisturizing lip gloss at all. It does not make my lips feel moisturized and it is kind of gritty feeling.

All the containers connect and are not easy to pull apart or put back together. I also think for the price it should come with applicators/brushes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Quality. LOVE some of these, dislike others.

First of all, these colors are well represented in the photo, they work well together, and they create a soft natural look.

The modular packaging design is sleek and cool and one of it's nicest features. Clicks together properly with other Jouer pallets.

Overall, though, my impression of the cosmetics themselves is rather mixed. Some are nice, some not, and overall I'm biased against the this coral color family (my least favorite; I prefer berries or browns or pinks...or...anything but coral, really). I will try to not let that influence my review overmuch.

There are two products I would consider purchasing and two I would not. I would consider purchasing the eyeshadows and the highlighter. I would recommend either. I would not repurchase the powder or the gloss. I would caution you not to purchase the powder for its own sake. Individual reviews follow below, from least-favorite-to-favorite.

POWDER: First of all, I really like the idea of translucent powder packaged with bronzer. It's mildly genius. I like the intention of providing a finely milled powder that doesn't clump. However, the execution stinks. The powder palette broke free from the pan on the first or second use. It can't be reinserted. More annoying is that it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to pick up ANY product on a brush or sponge. Have you ever bought and extremely OLD product that just wouldn't pick up? Similar. I tried rubbing the powder with a tissue to break into it. Seemed to work (and since I'm not big on "powdery looks" the fact that it picked up minimally then was actually nice). However, the "tissue treatment" has to be repeated with EVERY use, sometimes multiple times. There's something uncool about that. Not a fan. Also, lack of applicators is typicially fine with me, yet, with a powder, I think it's fair to include one. I would give this 1 star.

GLOSS: 3 stars. It is okay, I just don't find this a wearable color, however it does feel nice on the lips. the package is ingenius (it totally clips onto your powder). But it doesn't wear for a long time or go on particularly smoothly. It's not really a bad gloss, but it doesn't stand out. There are better glosses out there. I would not trash this one, but I wouldn't recommend it either.

SHADOW: 4 stars. THESE, I like! I could care less for the lighter color, it's another unwearable salmon. But the formula is good and I would totally check out other colors in this formula. Nice soft powder that picks up well, glides on, and doesn't flake off. I really love this velvety brown with just a hint of bronze. It's a special little brown, and I would absolutely buy it again. I would even buy this combo of two shadows to get it. RECOMMEND.

HIGHLIGHTER: 5 Stars. LOVE. My favorite item by far. It's the perfect tiny highlighter for travel. Moist but not greasy, the best of cream and powder highlighters joined into one. Feels nice, wears well. Again, I only use the lighter color, consider the coral shade not very wearable, but I would buy this again for the lighter shade. Just the right non-brassy brightener.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely portable makeup set

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
TThis was my first experience with the Jouer brand and I was impressed. If you are looking for a small set of makeup for traveling, the gym, or to keep in a clutch for last minute applications, this set is perfect. It covers a lot of the makeup functions- powder, bronzer, blush, highlighter, eye shadow and lip gloss.

I think what really sets this set apart from others I've purchased or browsed in the past is the ingenious way all the items lock together. It is great because it keeps everything in one place without the added bulk of a makeup bag. It's also small enough that I can easily tuck it into a small clutch or a jacket pocket, which is great for when I don't have a lot of storage space.

I also really liked the makeup products themselves. I thought everything in the palette worked well together for an overall look and was flattering with my features and coloring (I have blonde hair, green eyes and a fair skin with a very slight yellow undertone (My pantone color is 1Y05)). It is definitely a more subtle, daytime look vs. a dramatic nighttime look, but I tend to like makeup that is on the natural side, so this fits well with my style.

I also thought the makeup was easy to apply, though I did use my own makeup brushes rather than my fingers, so I do think this set would be more complete if it came with mini brushes. However, I have a lot of makeup brushes lying around so this wasn't an issue for me. The only product I had a little trouble applying was the highlighter and blush. Because I have dry skin, the creamy constancy made these a little harder to apply than a standard powder. However, they seem like they would work really well for someone with normal or oily skin. Otherwise, everything else was easy to use, even for this relative makeup novice.

And I liked how this makeup felt on my skin. Even though I have sensitive skin, it wasn't irritating or drying. I especially thought the lip gloss had a great texture. It wasn't sticky or tacky and applied evenly. (Though it does have a slight shimmer to it that I could see being polarizing.) I also thought the staying power of the makeup was reasonable, it seemed on par with other brands I really love like Laura Mercier, Makeup Forever, Nars, Smashbox, Stila, and Benefit.

Overall, I love the functionality of both the novel packaging and the makeup itself. It is great for taking my makeup on the go and has also been a nice introduction to the Jouer brand.

I wish I had something more complementary to say about this palette and brand. I feel as if it is a product that is trying hard, but priced too high. The powder and bronzer seemed a little on the chalky side to me. The eye shadows were less so, but just didn't have the buttery pay-off of brands like Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Chantecaille, or even many MAC shadows. They were finely milled without chalkiness, but almost excessively sheer; it would take quite a bit to build up color. They were more of a wash. The colors were attractive, but feel a lighter highlight color would have been more versatile. The blush and highlighter creams were nice. but for me a far more useful addition would have been a concealer, rather than a cream highlighter, since the eye shadow could double for that if one really wanted to shimmer their face. It seemed weird to have the blush and highlighter as creams; were you then supposed to put the matte powders over them? The lip gloss had an unpleasant odor/taste and, as another reviewer has noted, didn't apply evenly. I'm not sure why, but it was splotchy, and the color was a bit artless. The products are better than drugstore brands, but not even most ordinary department store brands. Certainly brands like Chanel, Shiseido, Clarins, Urban Decay, MAC, Bobbi Brown are superior, in my opinion. The containers were not cheap plastic, but they were ridiculously frustrating to snap together or separate. Trying to use the set without separating them would be somewhat of a hassle, but I can't imagine trying to separate the elements, for instance, in a restaurant or airport bathroom. It's like they were manufactured without much testing of a prototype. I find the personality cult around the business creator and owner a bit overdone and I wonder about her being just a front for a huge corporation, sort of a Betty Crocker for cosmetics. For $58, I'd invest in a few small pots of mineral makeup from a company like Alima (foundation, blush, eyeshadows, concealer, highlighter) and cute little bag to stash them in. Plus -- what about brushes? It defeats the whole purpose of having the click-together elements. Do you really want to dig your fingers into your cream blush and then try to put on powder and bronzer with your hands or a piece of tissue? You still need to purchase some if you don't have small ones for your purse, and then something to put them in. I'm almost talking myself into down-rating this to two stars!

This little compact is perfect to keep in your bag or purse. When all put together it's about the size of a CD case and just a little bit thicker. It can also click together to be about the size of two packs of gum (like Orbit) put together. As for the makeup itself, it goes on incredibly smoothly. The colors are pretty neutrals, and will flatter most skin tones except those that are darker (the bronzer and finish powder would be too light, but the eye shadow, highlighters and lip gloss would still work well). I am very fair with cool undertones, and these colors worked well for every day use. The eye shadows can be layered or applied wet for more depth. When using a primer, the shadows still looked good when 5pm rolled around.

The bronzer and finishing powder section was the best part for me. Both are matte, and in a bronzer that works for fair skin a matte version can be hard to find. I was pleased at how natural both powders looked, and having them with me to do touch up during the day was handy. Being able to leave the make-up bag out of my purse is wonderful. The highlighters are just the right amount of oomph. Not to shimmery at all but provides a nice lift. The gloss isn't overly sticky or tacky, but the staying power isn't great, but then again it's just like most lip glosses. Even with a lip primer it didn't make it through a cup of coffee. It's a nice addition though over long lasting lipstick. The only thing missing from this kit is a little click-on mascara and eye liner.

I have used Jouer off and on over the years, mainly off because it is on the pricey side even though it is a really good product. Another is that it isn't widely sold off of the internet. While this kit is small, it does the job quite well. If you don't like packing a full make up bag to tote around or travel a lot, this kit is worth it. Otherwise, other products will offer a better value for the price.
